About

Stompin' at the Swamp is an annual workshop weekend hosted by the Florida Swing Dancing Club.

This year we are proud to bring instructors Michael Gamble and Jaya Dorf from Asheville, NC. Michael and Jaya teach nationally and run the annual winter dance camp Lindy Focus, and Jaya is co-organizer of the Southern Belle Swing Bash.

Our theme this time around is "Leaping through Time!" We will progress throughout the weekend from the earliest origins of swing dancing, through the swing era, to the present, and then take wild stabs at the future.

Classes will cover dances rarely taught and never before arranged to permit such a comprehensive look at swing dancing. While appropriate for relative beginners, the classes will offer content which even advanced dancers may not have had yet.

Starting with our Friday night dance and on through the end of our Future Dance on Sunday night, the music will advance by a leap year every hour. Each hour will ensure a mix comfortable for dancers of all levels, while highlighting music which was recorded not later than that year. You are sure to be exposed to music you've never heard before.

Our desire is to draw dancers of all levels to Gainesville by providing something new for everyone. We'd like everyone to leave with an extended feel for the progress and interconnectedness of swing.

We've set our sights high, and we're sure this will be the biggest and best Stompin' at the Swamp yet. We hope you'll join us!
